First is gamer against the computer, and then there is the option to play against friends who also have this game.
The in-game hint system shows players a variety of suggested moves, both assisting and teaching all in one. Difficulty levels are set by the players, and chess piece colours can be selected for each game. Moves can be made as fast or as slow as the participant(s) choose without lag or game loading time waste. The 3D graphics make Free Chess seem a bit more like playing the game of chess with a live opponent sitting across the table. Additionally, Free Chess can be played in full-screen mode. The DirectX encoding allows the game to adapt to the screen resolution as well as the computer's CPU speed. In full-screen mode 16:9, 16:10 and 4:3 are the available resolutions.
